Everyone probably knows that Tokyo is one of
the priciest cities to live in.
Unfortunately it is true, and it is a major
point for the tourists.
As I continue my life in Tokyo,I have learned
ways to be frugal, the way to optimize price and quality. Remember my 1000yen
challenge. I may do a week challenge to see how little I can spend.
Anyway, the goal is to spend little,
experience a lot, have fun and also buy
things that you need.
The core of my motto comes from 100yen shops.
A shop where everything is 100yen which
becomes 108yen with tax. Stationary,food,kitchen utensils,bags,toys, and
anything that you can imagine exist in one shop.
The most famous one of the 100yen shops is
Daiso in Takeshita Dori,Harajuku, is a major tourist spot for shopping and also
Japanese fashion. So once you go there, you like it. And I like Harajuku very
much, I’ve already been there 2 times
this month.
I went there to buy Japanese gifts for friends
and family. They were happy to receive good Japanese gifts, and I was happy
that I stayed within my budget limits and made my folks happy.
The second time, I went to buy little things
form my place ,like cushions, towels, storage box…
I make my Daiso Harajuku shopping fun. The
cash registry is on the 1st floor, entrance, and there is total 4floors. So, when I
first enter the shop,I tactically use the elevator to the 3rd floor.
3rd floor is basically stationery and house-bath
items. Boomm I started filling my cart and found many small items that I never
knew I needed.
Then I went down,2nd floor is toys, and accessories
and cushions and homey items… I bought slippers and cushions at that floor. By
the way, beware of some items with different tag indicating that their price is
not 108yen, but they are still inexpensive and good quality.
Then I skipped the 1 floor and went to B1,
which is full of kitchen utensils, western and Japanese cutlery, food and all… if
you are looking for macha kitkats or macha oreos, that is the place to go or
buy some Japanese plates for your kitchen. I bought myself some plates and glasses.
Then to finish my Daiso haul,I go up to the
1st floor to the enterance and check the Japanese items that can be perfect
gifts for tourists, and there are many different styles, everytime I go there
are new selections of Japanese items, which make me almost addictive to go and
check the new products often.
After walking all the aisles of the Daiso,I
paid my purchase and went out to wander around Harajuku and Ometosando Hills. If
you feel up to it, it is quite easy to walk to Shibuya too.
Cheers,
Ece
